Including the lot
I often see people give a handful of examples as a short list following the word “including” but unfortunately more often than not the list is actually comprehensive.
I say unfortunately because that means they have misused the term “including”, where either nothing of possibly the word “comprising” would have been correct.
So, for example:
“I have been to the past three Summer Olympics, including London 2012, Beijing 2008 and Athens 2004” - incorrect.
“I have been to the past three Summer Olympics: Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012” - correct.
“My triple-Olympic experience comprises London 2012, Beijing 2008 and Athens 2004” - correct
“I have been to three Summer Olympics, including London 2012” - correct.
